Bob Gibbs on Climate Change

A 2010 summary of climate change deniers in the 112th Congress quotes Gibbs as saying, “with the recent reports that the data used regarding climate change that data was based on faulty, biased and unsubstantiated science, it is clear that science has not been able to document what is happening and if human activity is causing a problem or not. Many scientists are on both sides of this issue and the proponents of climate change have not substantiated their findings based on sound science.”

In early 2017, Bob Gibbs hosted a meeting in Loudonville, Ohio where his constituents gathered to express their concerns about a variety of topics, including climate change. When the conversation turned to the harmful effects of fracking, Gibbs claimed that there has never been a case where oil and fracking have directly contaminated ground aquifers. Meeting attendees were further outraged when Gibbs expressed the fact that he did not believe science can conclude whether or not humans affect the climate.

According to his League of Conservation scorecard, his lifetime voting record when it comes to pro-environmental policies is 3%. He is running for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020.
