Climate Change is Global, the Impact is Local

Morgan Griffith

Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA, 9th District) is a Congressman from Virginia and a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.

Despite this committee membership, Griffith has consistently voted against climate change legislation, with a League of Conservation Voters lifetime rating of 5%. In particular, Griffith is a steady supporter of the coal industry, often calling to end “the war on coal.” On his website, Griffith states that he supports “common sense [environmental] policies” and “an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy” which incorporates many energy methods, but he also aims to “increase current coal production and eliminate overly burdensome regulations” on the industry. Over the course of his political career, Griffith has received over $300,000 in campaign donations from mining companies which hold a significant economic presence in his home district. Most recently, Griffith voted against H.R. 535, “Protecting People from PFAS Pollution,” which aimed to regulate the use of harmful substances used in mining.
