Climate Change is Global, the Impact is Local

Thom Tillis

Thom Tillis is a US Senator from North Carolina who has served in the Senate since 2015. He is currently a member of the Armed Services Committee and Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. He is running for reelection in November against Democratic nominee Cal Cunningham. 

On Climate Change:

On climate change, Tillis has said, “I think we have to come up with several strategies to recognize reality. That climate changes. Sometimes it changes just because it has over millennia, and other times it changes because of human factors.”

In 2014, when asked in a debate about whether climate change is a fact, he simply responded by saying, “No.” 

On his website, he states, “Thom believes a key to this effort will be addressing climate change through market-based solutions that foster innovation and drive economic growth.”

Tillis has a lifetime League of Conservation Voters score of 9% and voted for a bill that would allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Tillis has received $504,479 in contributions from the oil and gas industry. He also votes in line with President Trump 93.4% of the time.
