Climate Change is Global, the Impact is Local

Don Young

Congressman Don Young (R-AK, At-large District) has served in the House since 1973, and he is the longest currently serving member of Congress. He currently serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

On Climate Change

Young is extremely inconsistent with his stance on climate change. In 2010, he said in an interview that, “[climate change] is the biggest scam since the Teapot Dome,” saying later in that same interview, “You get your information, I’ll get my information, we’ll sit down and debate the issue. We’ll see who comes out right.”

Currently stated on his website, however, Young takes a different approach:  “I do not challenge that climate change is occurring, but the central question awaiting an answer is to what extent man-made emissions are responsible for this change.”

Despite Young’s shift in opinion over the last decade, which is reflective of the Republican party’s general shift in opinion, his voting record is stark. His League of Conservation Voters Lifetime Score is 8%.

Young and Friends

For the 2020 election cycle, Don Young has received $15,000 from Agribusiness PACs and $29,000 from Oil and Gas PACs. He votes in line with President Trump 89.7% of the time.
